Current Projects

Much of the new series of paintings I am currently working on draws upon the amazingness of nature. My subjects are organisms that have bio-inspiration potential or have already inspired innovation in our human technologies. Bio-inspiration uses principals in nature to help find solutions in models, engineering systems and technological designs. In the subjects of my paintings you will see some divergences from my characteristic marine theme, the latest divergence is a budgerigar. I was driving home from work one day and heard an article about scientists (Mandyam Srinivasan and Ingo Schiffner UQ’s Queensland Brain Institute) studying why budgerigars don’t hit each other or collide with objects when they fly. The answer was simple, they always veer right, and the dominant one goes low and the other high. The scientists are looking to use this simple collision free passage for such things as airspace management for drones. In these new painting I am trying to exemplify the particular ‘superpower’ each organism or species has by using colour and motion.

Artworks range between $600 and $4,000.
